It says what it knows

The clocks say estimated, because that is what they are.

Elapsed, left and the drift against the time you asked for are worked out from the scroll and the words in front of it. They are good enough to run a read against and honest about being estimates, because real timing depends on the presenter, the take and how the script is written. For anything you cannot afford to lose, keep a printed or second-device copy.

01   Pair

Every screen in the room, on one clock

One device holds the script and owns the scroll. The others join as a remote, a monitor or an editor. They exchange small timestamped commands rather than pictures, so a couple of hundred milliseconds of bad network costs the read nothing. Pairing takes a code shown on both screens, and the link between paired devices is encrypted.

02   Run

Run orders, cues and a fix that does not stop the take

Build the running order the pieces go out in and the estimated clocks follow it. Drop cue markers where the script has to wait for a camera, a guest or a roll-in, and jump between them. When a word is wrong, the Edit chip pauses the scroll, takes the fix at reading size on the paragraph you were on, and puts you back on the same paragraph with the session still standing.

03   Drive

Drive it with whatever is already in your hand

A keyboard, a page-turner pedal, a game controller, another device in the session, the Apple Watch on your wrist, a USB jog wheel on the Mac, or your own voice. Everything arrives as the same command through one router, so a control you add mid-shoot behaves exactly like the one you were using a minute ago.

04   Keep

The same library on the devices you own

Scripts, folders and run orders sync through your own iCloud account, so what you wrote on the Mac last night is on the iPad this morning. It is one switch in Settings, on by default where you are signed in to iCloud, and it uses the app's own private area of your account. If the same script changes in two places, the later change is the one you keep and the earlier one is kept beside it as a recovered copy rather than being thrown away.

Bring it in

Open a txt, rtf, docx, pdf, fountain or fdx file, or write it in the app. Set the size, the margins, the speed and whether it mirrors, once, for the rig you are on.

Pair the room

Host from the device holding the script. Every other screen shows the code, joins as a remote, a monitor or an editor, and lands on the same clock.

Run it

Play from the pedal, the watch or the wheel. Jump a cue, fix a word without stopping, and read the estimated clocks off the dock as you go.

A real Mac app, not a phone app in a window.

Native macOS, so it behaves the way the rest of your bay does. It can host the session for the room, and it takes the same one purchase as the iPhone and the iPad.

A jog wheel that reads like a deck

A Contour ShuttlePro v2 or ShuttleXpress over USB. The outer ring is speed while you hold it, away from you forwards and towards you back for a pickup, and letting go puts the scroll back exactly as it was. The inner dial nudges the read line a line at a time.

Always on top, and see through

Keep the script above the call you are on and set how solid the window is. File and Session live in the menu bar, the library takes the keyboard, and the scroll wheel scrubs.

What do I need to run it?

An iPhone or iPad running iOS or iPadOS 17 or later, or a Mac running macOS 14 or later. One purchase covers all three. To run a session across devices you need them on the same network, or joined directly to each other, and nothing else.

Does a session go through a Cutvey server?

No. The script, the cues, the scroll position and any live edits go to the devices you paired, over your own network, and to nowhere else. Pairing needs a code shown on both screens and the connection between paired devices is encrypted. Anyone you pair with can read the script you are running, so pair only devices you are willing to show it to.

Where do my scripts live?

On the device you wrote them on. With Sync scripts with iCloud switched on, which it is by default where you are signed in to iCloud, a copy of your scripts, folders and run orders is also kept in your own iCloud account, so the same library opens on your other devices. That copy is yours. Cutvey cannot read it, and no script is ever sent to Cutvey or to a Cutvey workspace.

How does voice follow work?

It listens on the prompting device and trims the scroll to the pace you are reading. It is optional and off by default, and the app asks for the microphone the first time you turn it on, not before. Speech recognition runs on the device only, with no fallback to a server: where a device cannot do it, the feature says so and stops. Nothing is recorded and nothing is sent anywhere.

Are the clocks exact?

They are estimates, and the app labels them that way: EST. ELAPSED and EST. LEFT. Real timing depends on the presenter, the take and how the script is written. Keep a printed or second-device copy for anything you cannot afford to lose.
